The Operations Manager manages the daily operations of the Vermeer Beijing manufacturing (VBM) plant.  This role is responsible for developing plant production capabilities while mentoring the plant manager in these responsibilities.  The Operations Manager assists the plant manager in directing managers and employees who are directly responsible for production, procurement, maintenance, human resources, continuous improvement and production control within the plant.  This role is responsible for coordinating with engineering and product management to meet customer demand for new product development.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing, communicating, and meeting VBM’s production schedule
  • Manage the production schedule for the plant, co-lead plant production meetings with plant manager, coordinate daily production within the plant and with other departments and functions of the organization e.g. facilitate new product launch meetings, communicate regularly with personnel across the organization regarding plant operations, plan current and future projects and follow up on completed projects.
  • Participate in engineering, purchasing, SOP, quality, plant and continuous improvement meetings; participate in the continuous improvement process and presentations; and facilitate regular quality and safety awareness audits.
  • Assist in the management of assigned personnel in performance of their duties including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, training, evaluation, scheduling work activities, discipline and discharge.  Establish and monitor individual and team goals which are aligned with the Organization’s business strategies and objectives.
  • Guide the preparation of requests for maintenance, jigs, KPO, service, engineering, and human resources.
  • Evaluate critical measures of the plant and make the necessary adjustments to reduce cost and increase production and quality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Management with at least 10 years of production and management experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to operate a computer and all office equipment, including telephone, copier and fax machine.  Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Access.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to operate production machines and power tools.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Vermeer policies and procedures, Vermeer products, supplier value stream, supplier products, inventory management, and facilities and maintenance.
  • Ability to effectively manage plant operations and attain performance goals including, but not limited to, plant efficiency/productivity, inventory as a percent of sales, safety measures, sales, gross margin, operating income, assembly quality, purchased parts quality and audit rate.
  • Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.
  • Demonstration of good negotiation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assist in the management of staff in the performance of duties such that performance meets or exceeds expectations and develop staff by administering critical success factors, creating local measures and project plans for each direct report.
  • Ability to oversee execution of manufacturing schedules and assure the application of all production, test, development, documentation and safety standards.
  • Ability to coordinate manufacturing with accounting, production control, engineering, maintenance and other departments in the accomplishment of production goals.
  • Ability to coordinate long-range planning of employment, production facility, and plant equipment needs.
  • Ability to ensure prompt and economical receipt of materials, supplies and parts.  Ensure that Company policies and procedures are met.
  • Ability to maintain awareness of manufacturing technology for reduced cost and improved quality. 
  • Ability to coordinate hours worked and scheduled for maximum efficiency and production demands with appropriate management.
  • Ability to assist in and model effective management of the team, including the selection and development of employees; budget administration; employee safety; employee counseling and motivation; Organization goals and objectives; and planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed within the team.
  • Ability to mentor the plant manager, facilitating his development in areas pertaining to plant and operations management.
  • Ability to exhibit cultural understanding, adaptability, and flexibility.
