The Embedded Hardware Engineer is responsible for developing, integrating, testing, and debugging of application hardware for Vermeer machine control systems. The Hardware Engineer will provide functional expertise in the field of embedded hardware with knowledge of microcontroller architecture, control system theory, and embedded electronic hardware design. The Hardware Engineer will also provide support and guidance to production and dealership technical personnel in regards to new product launches and technical issues as they relate to existing machines and hardware issues.
Your Responsibilities:

Responsible for developing, integrating, testing, debugging and commissioning of complex application hardware with Software Engineers and hardware debugging tools for Vermeer machine control systems including directing regulatory tests for electronic devises, documenting development process and results.

Work in tandem with the project team(s) in completing project goals including but not limited to, meeting scheduled deadlines, dates, meeting performance, reliability, target cost, and quality objectives as set by Engineering Standards.

Responsible for ensuring successful transition of a product/design from design to full production, including verification and qualification.

Support engineering groups, production, suppliers, safety, sales, service, etc. in order to provide engineering related information to meet project goals assigned.

Provides support to the Service Department including service trips as designated by the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s Degree Engineering in the field of electronics, computer engineering, or machine control related discipline with at least 5 years previous experience; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A Master of Science degree is preferred. Knowledge in RF system design architecture; use of RF simulation tools; programming gateware for use in FPGA based applications is a must.

Ability to proficiently use source code editors and IDE, compilers, and other specialized engineering software. Ability to use text editors, spread sheets, and other common business software. Xilinx FPGAs using VHDL and Verilog.

Demonstrated ability to Design and program complex firmware for high speed digital boards, including FPGAs, 32 bit microprocessors, DDR/2 memory, Flash and other peripherals. Build electrical interfaces such as PCI, Gigabit Ethernet, HomePlug or similar standards. Plan mixed analogue and digital board level products and perform signal integrity analyses.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Problems are of a difficult nature; supervision is limited to assignments and discussion of problems.

Strong understanding of digital signal processing techniques along with a basic understanding of analog modulation methods to produce new hardware, software, and processing applications for radar acquisition and apply the new product developments to industrial applications

Good working knowledge of engineering processes and project management i.e. cost and functional performance, the ability to read and create appropriate project documentation etc.

Knowledge of microcontroller architectures and principles of operation.

Knowledge of embedded electronic hardware design.

Knowledge of embedded firmware design.

Knowledge of physics and general science

Experience in embedded hardware and firmware design.

Experience in PCB design CAD is a plus.

Experience in embedded control system design in off road vehicles a plus

Experience in sensors and power electronics is a plus

Ability to learn and a desire to meet Vermeer customer’s needs and provide practical solutions without direct supervision and show innovation in selecting and utilizing the proper tools in a fast paced environment.

Ability to practice creative problem solving to investigate new concepts and technologies.
